A Personal Trainer Salary Can Be Large

Almost every week I hear the words what is a personal trainer salary? How much can a personal fitness trainer make? My answer is simple as much as you want. The person asking the question usually looks puzzled after I make that statement.

The average salary of a personal trainer is around $42,000. However, who wants to be average? Some fitness trainers make well over $100,000 per year. How, you ask? The answer is focusing on marketing, and selling their personal training services. They have a clear cut, action oriented marketing and sales plan.

So the answer to if a personal trainer salary is worthwhile, I answer definitely yes! The personal fitness trainers who take the risk of starting their own personal training business are the ones who generally reap the higher incomes. On the other hand, health club, or fitness training studio employees get paid much less for the so-called job security.

If you are considering the profession of personal training, expect a personal trainers salary of anywhere from $15 to $150 per one hour session. So yes, there is money to be made as a professional fitness trainer. You just need to decide how much you want to make.

Personal Training Schools Do Not Tell All

So you want to be a professional fitness trainer. Personal training schools are probably at the top of your list. After all, you do need the basics to become a personal trainer. The fact is graduating from a personal trainer school does not necessarily mean money will immediately fall from the sky. Such personal training courses at various personal training schools briefly touch upon the very basics of being a personal trainer. Most fitness training schools will cover anatomy, physiology, exercise program design and briefly cover personal training business and marketing strategies.

It is important to realize we, as personal trainers, are not in the personal training business, but the marketing of personal training. In my opinion, personal training schools should spend three fourths of the fitness training course on how to successfully run a personal fitness training business. Another words, how to market and sell personal fitness training.

If you, as a fitness trainer, can understand this one concept I just mentioned above, you will quickly be on your way to a very profitable fitness training venture.

Since I have been in the personal training trenches for well over a decade, I know the vital importance of marketing for your fitness consulting firm. Therefore, my newest course Personal Training Riches serves as a definitive guide to marketing and selling your personal training services. Thus, Personal Training Riches greatly compliments many of the better personal training schools teachings.

How To Become A Personal Trainer

The personal training market is booming! More and more people are turning to professional fitness trainers to assist them in losing fat, and gaining muscle. Fitness minded individuals are quickly discovering money can be made helping people become fit. As a matter of fact, a lot of money can be made!

Growth in the industry continues to show a steep climb. Now is the time to become a personal trainer. You can generate a large income doing what you enjoy, talking fitness. Below I have listed some ideas on how to become a personal fitness trainer.

1. It is best to have a bachelors or above in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or Human biology. If not, locate an entry level course pertaining to fitness, anatomy, and physiology. I know some colleges such as UCLA have extension programs on fitness programming. You can also try community colleges. If all else fails, turn online for a personal trainer home study course, or personal training school. (Education is a must, or you won’t be qualified to empower people.)

2. Look into a private fitness trainer certification program. ACE, ACSM, and NSCA offer great programs just to mention a few.

3. Find a gym, or trainer mentor that will take you under their wing.

4. Study business and sales principles. This is very important! If you don’t know how to sell your services, nobody will benefit.
Personal Training Riches spells it all out.

5. Learn as you earn. Continue to build your exercise physiology knowledge as long as you are a personal trainer.

Above is a quick down and dirty outline to get you started at becoming a personal trainer. However, this is plenty more to learn if you want to reach the of a $100,000 personal fitness trainer.

The Personal Training Business Is A Business

Over the years I have seen too many trainers not treating their professional training businesses as true businesses. Many just take the “I’m going to train some folks and earn a few extra bucks” attitude. The challenge is personal fitness trainers are passionate about exercise, fitness, nutrition, and helping people. Generally, they are not enthusiastic, and informed about business. Therefore, many professional fitness trainers lack the business know how to run a very successful personal training company.

Fitness trainers are generally educators. Educators quite frequently lack the understanding of making profits. Pro trainers need to have business plans, goals, objectives, competitive analysis, target market understanding, and tremendous people skills, just to name a few. If you are lacking in just one of the segments I mentioned above, you are not making as much money as a fitness trainer as you could be.

If you are a fitness pro who doesn’t think, live and breath, it is quickly time for a paradigm shift. How about giving yourself a pay raise today?
