Time To Fire Your Personal Training Client?
If you have been in the personal training business long enough you surely have run into “problem clients.” Your clientele will be comprised of A students whom you love to work with, and F students whom just zap your time, and energy.
Have you ever asked the question, when is enough? Problem clients are the ones who treat you with disrespect, cancel more than they make it, and complain about just about anything they can. Some of these clients won’t even work, but just want you to listen to them.
Since you are running a profitable personal training business you must make the decision to fire your “F” clients, and replace them with “A-C” personal training clients.
How do you fire a client?
Here are a couple of ways to do it.
1. Raise your rates much higher than they are willing to pay.
2. For the ones who cancel all the time tell them you can’t continue because you won’t be able to deliver on your services as a result of the inconsistent attendance. Before it comes down to this, make sure you continue to stress the importance of attendance for results.
3. For the rude fitness training clients, all you have to say is our business relationship is just not working out, and you feel another personal trainer would be a more suited for them.
The bottom line is don’t be afraid to fire clients that are constantly causing you trouble. However, it is important to not burn bridges, and do so in a very professional manner. Never fire a client out of anger.
Please note, you will probably have to do this less than a handful of times in your personal training business career.
Just remember, you are running a business.
